About the Video Cutter

This free video cutter keeps only the part of a video you need: a goal, a speech, a funny moment, a clip for social networks. You set a Start and an End, then export. The video is read and cut by your browser itself; it is never sent to a server.

Two methods are available. The fast, lossless method copies the compressed video as it is: it takes a few seconds even for a long film, and the quality is identical to the original. The precise method decodes and re-encodes the passage so that it starts exactly on the frame you chose.

Key Features

Start and End markers: big ⟦ Start / End ⟧ buttons, I and O keys, draggable handles, frame-by-frame stepping and time fields to the millisecond.
Lossless cut: no re-encoding, no quality loss, very fast; the exact start used is shown on the timeline.
Frame-accurate cut: re-encoding in MP4 (H.264) or WebM (VP9), three quality levels and optional downscaling to 1080p, 720p or 480p.
Sound: keep it, remove it, or export the audio only.
Information: duration, resolution, frame rate, codecs, bitrate and key frame interval.

How to Use the Tool

Step 1: open a video by clicking the area above or dragging it onto it.
Step 2: play it (Space) and press ⟦ Start (I) then End (O) ⟧ at the right moments; fine-tune with the arrow keys (one frame), the ± buttons or by dragging the handles.
Step 3: check with ▶ Play selection.
Step 4: choose “Fast, lossless” or “Precise”, then export.

Key Frames & Browser Support

Why does the fast cut start a little earlier? Compressed videos only store some complete images, called key frames (often every 1 to 10 seconds); the others only describe changes. Without re-encoding, a clip must start on a key frame, so Start moves back to the previous one. The real start is shown before export. Use “Precise” to start on the exact frame.
Precise export uses the WebCodecs API: recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. If the browser cannot encode H.264, choose WebM (VP9); if no encoder is available, the option is disabled with an explanation.
MKV and some MOV files (ProRes, HEVC on some systems) may not be readable or playable by every browser.
Large files: the export is built in memory; above 500 MB, prefer a computer to a phone.

Privacy & Security

The video is read and processed only in your browser: it is never uploaded, stored or analysed on a server, and the tool sends no data over the network. The exported file keeps no location or creation date metadata. Reading and writing video files relies on Mediabunny 1.62.1, distributed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and served from this site.
