What is a QR Code?

QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that can store various types of information. They were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking automotive parts but are now widely used for everything from marketing to contactless payments. Anyone with a smartphone can scan a QR code using their camera app.

  • Restaurants: Create digital menus that customers can access by scanning
  • Events: Generate tickets or check-in codes for conferences and gatherings
  • Product Packaging: Link to product information, instructions, or support pages
  • Payments: Enable quick mobile payments with payment app QR codes

QR Code Best Practices

For best results, ensure your QR code has sufficient contrast with its background. When printing, maintain a minimum size of 2x2 cm (about 0.8x0.8 inches) and always test the QR code before mass production. Leave adequate white space around the code for optimal scanning. For URLs, use a URL shortener if your link is very long to create a simpler QR code pattern.
