🫥 Blur an Image
Hide faces, number plates or addresses, or blur the background of a photo. Everything happens in your browser: the image is never uploaded.
Drop an image here, click to choose one or paste it (Ctrl+V)
JPG, PNG or WebP · processed only on your device
🔐 To anonymise sensitive information (face, plate, name, address), prefer large-block pixelation or a solid box: a light blur can sometimes be partly reversed by specialised software.

About the Image Blur Tool
Before sharing a photo you often need to hide a face, a number plate, a username or an address. This tool blurs, pixelates or covers exactly the zones you choose, or blurs the background to make the subject stand out like a portrait mode. All processing happens in your browser.
How to Use the Tool
- Open an image by clicking, dragging and dropping, or pasting (Ctrl+V).
- Choose what to blur: the whole image, zones (rectangles or ellipses), brush strokes, or the automatically detected background.
- Set the effect: blur, pixelation or solid colour, and how soft the edges are.
- Compare with the original using the slider or the “hold” button, then download the image as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
How the Effect Is Computed
- Gaussian blur: three successive box-blur passes computed in JavaScript give the same result in every browser, including those without canvas filter support.
- Pixelation: the image is split into blocks; each block takes the average colour of its pixels. The original detail is truly destroyed.
- Solid box: the zone is replaced by a plain colour; nothing of the original remains.
- Feathered edges: the transition goes outwards from the zone, so the inside stays fully hidden.
- Full resolution: the preview is scaled down to stay smooth, but the export applies your settings to the original image, at its own size.
Tips
- Anonymisation: for text or faces, use large pixel blocks or a black box rather than a light blur.
- Leave a margin: draw the zone slightly larger than what you are hiding.
- Screenshots: also hide avatars, phone numbers and visible email addresses.
- Portrait effect: a photo with a subject well separated from the background works best; adjust feathering if the outline looks too sharp.
Common Mistakes and Limits
- A blur that is too light lets text or faces be guessed, and can sometimes be partly reversed.
- Forgetting reflections (windows, glasses, screens) showing the same information elsewhere.
- Approximate subject detection on fine hair or transparent objects: touch up with zones or the brush.
- Very large images: above about 40 megapixels the export is scaled down to stay within browser limits.
Privacy & Security
- 100% in your browser: the image is never uploaded, not even for subject detection.
- Metadata removed: the exported image no longer contains EXIF data (camera model, date, GPS location).
- No sign-up, free and usable offline once the page (and the model) have loaded.
