โ„น๏ธ This tool checks the format and check digit only. It does not query any registry: to confirm that a company exists, is active or is registered for VAT, open the official registry link (YTJ, Bolagsverket, Brรธnnรธysundregistrene, Virk) or the EU VIES service. For other EU VAT numbers, use the EU VAT Number Validator.

About the Nordic Business ID Validator

Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark each give companies a short national number with a check digit: the Y-tunnus, the organisationsnummer, the organisasjonsnummer and the CVR number. The same number is used for tax, VAT and the trade register, so a single typo breaks an invoice, a payment or a customer record.

This tool recognises the country, verifies the check digit and the structural rules of each format, shows the normalised number and derives the VAT number, without sending anything to a server.

    Key Features

    • Four countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, with automatic detection or a manual choice.
    • Precise errors: wrong length, wrong check digit (with the expected one), impossible first digit or date.
    • Swedish sole traders: a personnummer used as a business number is recognised and labelled as such.
    • VAT number: FI + 8 digits, SE + 10 digits + 01, NO + 9 digits + MVA, DK + 8 digits.
    • Calculator and generator: find a missing check digit or create fictitious test numbers.

    How to Use the Tool

    • Step 1: Paste the number, with or without spaces, hyphens or VAT prefix.
    • Step 2: Leave Auto selected, or choose the country. An 8-digit number can be Finnish or Danish: both checks are shown.
    • Step 3: Read the result, copy the normalised number with ๐Ÿ“‹ and open the registry link to confirm the company.
    • Step 4: To calculate a check digit, select the country and enter the number without its last digit.

Swedish numbers may also appear with 12 digits: 16 + organisation number, or the century (19/20) + personnummer. Common Use Cases

    • Checking a Nordic supplier or customer before issuing an invoice
    • Validating company numbers in a checkout, ERP or CRM form
    • Cleaning imported customer data before a VAT report
    • Producing fictitious test numbers for software development

    Tips & Best Practices

    • A correct check digit only proves the number is well formed, not that the company exists: always confirm in the registry.
    • Norway is not in the EU: a Norwegian MVA number cannot be checked in VIES, only in the Brรธnnรธysund registers.
    • Swedish sole traders use their personal identity number: treat it as personal data under the GDPR.
    • Generated numbers have a valid check digit and may coincide with a real company: never use them as real identifiers.

    Privacy & Security

The checks run entirely in your browser. Numbers are never sent to a server, stored or logged, and the registry links only open when you click them.
