About weighted averages
A weighted average gives some grades more importance: multiply each grade by its weight, add them up, then divide by the total of the weights. Example: 12 (weight 2) and 15 (weight 1) give (24 + 15) ÷ 3 = 13.
Features
- Weights: whole or decimal (0.5 for homework, for example)
- Grades out of any total: out of 20, 10, 40… converted automatically
- Average out of 20, 10 or 100
- Target: the grade needed on the next test to reach your goal
- Saved: your grades stay in this browser for your next visit
How to use
- Step 1: enter each grade, its total (“out of”) and its weight
- Step 2: add rows if needed with “+ Add a grade”
- Step 3: read the average; set a target to see the grade to aim for
Use cases
- School: term average for a subject
- Exams: overall average with the exam weightings
- University: module average with ECTS credits as weights
- Parents: follow results during the term
Tips
- A row without a grade is ignored: handy to prepare upcoming tests
- A weight of 0 excludes a grade without deleting it
- The official average may differ if your school rounds or weights differently
Privacy
Your grades are calculated and stored only in your browser: they are never sent anywhere and we never have access to them. “Clear all” deletes them.
