About the Video Compressor

This free video compressor makes a video smaller so it fits in an e-mail, a messaging app or a forum. You set a size not to exceed, or a quality level, and your browser re-encodes the video at the right bitrate. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

The maths is simple: video bitrate = (target size − room for the sound) ÷ duration, with a 5% margin. If the resolution is too high for that bitrate, the tool automatically picks a smaller one and warns you when the target is unrealistic.

Key Features

  • Ready-made goals: e-mail (about 10 MB), WhatsApp (about 64 MB, 720p), Discord (about 20 MB, free account), or a custom size in MB.
  • Quality mode: high, medium or light, with no size limit.
  • Resolution: automatic (the largest that stays sharp for the requested size), 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p.
  • Frame rate and sound: cap at 30 or 24 fps, sound at 128, 96 or 64 kb/s, original sound or none.
  • Estimate and result: estimated size before, real size and savings after; a second pass corrects the bitrate if the encoder misses the target.

How to Use the Tool

  • Step 1: open a video (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV).
  • Step 2: choose the goal (e-mail, WhatsApp, Discord, custom size or quality).
  • Step 3: adjust the resolution, frame rate and sound if needed; cut the video to save even more space.
  • Step 4: click “Compress” and get the file.

Common Use Cases

  • Sending a match or party video by e-mail without hitting the attachment limit.
  • Sharing a video on Discord without a Nitro subscription.
  • Shrinking phone videos before archiving them or uploading them to a website.
  • Making a light demo or tutorial for a support ticket or documentation.

Messaging Limits & Tips

  • E-mail: Gmail accepts 25 MB and Outlook 20 MB, but an attachment grows by about a third once encoded: 10 MB goes through almost anywhere.
  • WhatsApp: according to its help centre (November 2026), the default video limit is 100 MB in 720p on a fast connection and 64 MB in 480p on a slow one; sent as a “document”, up to 2 GB without recompression.
  • Discord: 20 MB per file for free accounts since August 2026 (10 MB before), 50 MB with Nitro Basic, 500 MB with Nitro. If in doubt, use “Custom size”.
  • To save the most space: cut useless parts, lower the resolution, cap at 30 or 24 fps; a very busy video (sport, confetti) needs more bitrate than a static screen.
  • Encoding uses WebCodecs (recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari); one minute of video takes from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the device.

Privacy & Security

The video is read and compressed only in your browser: it is never uploaded, stored or analysed on a server, and the tool makes no network request. The compressed file keeps no location, date or device metadata. Reading and writing video files relies on Mediabunny 1.62.1, distributed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and served from this site.
