About the mileage allowance

The French tax mileage scale sets a flat cost for using a personal vehicle: depreciation, maintenance, repairs, tyres, fuel and insurance. It is used to deduct travel costs when you choose actual expenses (frais réels) on your tax return, and as a reference by employers who reimburse business trips.

Features

  • Official 2026 scale: for 2025 income, unchanged since 2023
  • All vehicles: cars from 3 to 7+ CV, motorbikes, mopeds
  • Electric: 20% increase applied automatically
  • Home-to-work distance: worked out from the one-way distance and days worked, with the 40 km cap
  • Tolls and parking: added on top of the scale amount
  • Scale shown: the formula used is highlighted in the table

How to use

  • Step 1: choose the vehicle type, engine and fiscal power
  • Step 2: enter the kilometres for the year, or work them out with the home-to-work helper
  • Step 3: read the amount and the formula applied

Good to know

  • Fiscal power (CV) is shown in box P.6 of the French registration certificate
  • The scale already includes fuel: do not claim it on top
  • Car loan interest can be added for employees, in proportion to business use
  • Actual expenses are only worth it if they exceed the standard 10% deduction
  • Keep a record of your trips (calendar, statements) in case of an audit
