About Image Compressor
Reduce image file size for the web, email attachments or storage. The image is re-encoded in your browser with the quality, format and maximum width you choose, and the exact sizes before and after are displayed.
Supported Formats
- JPG/JPEG: best for photos; the quality slider controls the compression
- WebP: modern format, usually smaller than JPEG, keeps transparency
- PNG: lossless; the quality slider has no effect. To shrink a PNG, convert it to WebP (keeps transparency) or JPEG, or reduce its width

Tips & Best Practices
- A quality of 70-85% is usually visually identical for photos
- JPEG has no transparency: transparent areas become white
- Re-encoding an already optimized image can make it bigger; the tool tells you when this happens, keep your original in that case
- Metadata (EXIF, GPS location) is removed from the compressed file; the photo orientation is applied to the pixels
